Chris Haley is... THE ENTHUSIAST!

guttersnipercomics:

So after all that talk yesterday from Marvel about their new approach to cover design, we were treated to this cover from Rick Remender and John Cassady’s Uncanny Avengers.
And this is a hot mess right there, design-wise. I mean, art-wise, it’s pretty solid. The birds-eye-view of the group shot is kind of cool, and the composition of the art is solid. But it’s ted design elements that really wet the bed here.
First off, that background logo is just plain janky, with . I get that you’re forgoing the “top third is the masthead” thing, but nothing on that logo matches up like it should. Look at the “C” and “A” un “UNCANNY” and how they almost-but-not-quite line up. That is a big-ass, weird tangent. And that credit type is garish as hell. Either outline it or drop-shadow it. Cuz doing both looks tacky.
I like the idea of the infodump box at the bottom of the page, but three logos, one of which is that AWFUL “Join the Re-Evolution” one? C’mon son. And let’s not say too much about that “Marvel NOW!” logo, with the “NOW” all crammed in that box like one of those political prisoners you read about in Amnesty International ads.
I have a feeling when Quesada talks about really looking at how they design their covers, he simply means composition of the art and elements and not the fundamental design, because this is just not strong at all. Removing the mastheads from the tops of your covers does not equal good design.
